JOHANNESBURG - Public Protector Thuli Madonsela recently received a text message from an informant, warning her that a Cape Town gang boss has been paid R740,000 to orchestrate her murder.

The Public Protector, who has been working on a number of high-profile cases, has received criticism for the work she is doing and has reportedly made a lot of enemies along the way.

She was elected as Public Protector in 2009 and her term will come to an end in October.

She has refused to comment on threats made against her life, only saying that she's assigned her team to speak on the matter and has left further issues in the police's hands.
